A.C.T., one of the country's leading regional theaters and actor training institutions, seeks a charismatic, socially minded theater arts educator to serve as a full-time Community Producer to lead the company's efforts to bring participatory arts experiences to underserved populations in San Francisco through its Stage Coach initiative. Working closely with the Education Department, The Community Producer will be primarily responsible for all aspects of the Stage Coach program, including developing and maintaining relationships between A.C.T. and community partners, and structuring, scheduling, and overseeing events at citywide street fairs and festivals and sustained activities in target neighborhoods. This position will report to and work closely with the Director of Education to align the Stage Coach program with the mission, goals, and objectives of A.C.T.'s existing school and community programs.
Job duties include:
Identifying and forging connections with leaders in Stage Coach target communities in San Francisco's Bayview/Hunter's Point, Central Market, and Mission/Excelsior neighborhoods, building and maintaining relationships with individuals and organizations, and actively engaging in community events and meetings
Contracting, and managing a 3?5 person Community Cabinet of A.C.T. staff members and allies and a Community Advisory Board to forge relationships with partners in the Stage Coach target communities, help run and shape Stage Coach events, and document community responses
Serving as the producer of Stage Coach performances and workshops at citywide street fairs and cultural heritage festivals, including contracting with sponsoring agencies, scheduling Stage Coach performances and workshops, and supervising all logistics
Coordinating across all A.C.T. departments, including marketing, artistic, and production, to produce Stage Coach performances, workshops, residencies, and community exhibitions
Developing curricula for and leading Stage Coach performances, workshops, and community conversations, independently and in partnership with teaching artists and A.C.T. faculty
Contracting, training, and managing Stage Coach teaching artists, performers, mentors, interns, and volunteers
Collecting data, documenting, maintaining records, and monitoring progress toward Stage Coach grant objectives
Additional duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess:
B.A. or B.F.A. in theater, education, and/or related field
At least 3 years' experience as a teaching artist that includes developing curriculum and facilitating workshops and residencies
At least 3 years' experience in arts management that includes supervising other teaching artists, staff, and volunteers, creating and managing budgets, and measuring programmatic progress
At least 3 years' experience with community organizing and coordinating projects with nontraditional alliances
Familiarity with and connection to community-based organizations in Stage Coach target neighborhoods
Experience working with underserved youth and diverse community members of all ages
Excellent public-speaking, presentation, and communication skills; personable and diplomatic in working with diverse constituencies
Demonstrated ability to work independently and to establish collaborative relationships among a broad spectrum of constituents
Passion for social justice and the power of theater to help achieve personal transformation and social change
Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends as needed
Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Must be able to successfully pass basic health screenings and a criminal background check
Proficiency in Spanish highly desirable.
This position is supported under a 24 month grant.
